Dogs are the best Valentine; It's Scientifically Proven

As if spoiling our dogs 364 days a year isn't enough, we are all about spoiling our dogs on Valentine's Day. Maybe it's because we are busy working pet parents who are guilty of fly-by affection. Or, maybe it's because it's scientifically proven that we have to! Could it be? Get this ...

Emmanuel College, in Boston, MA, put into perspective the true meaning of “man’s best friend” and the importance of our relationship with our dogs. Research indicates that, “Dogs play a distinct role in their impact on human relationships and processes because of the unique role they play in American society, existing in a liminal space of "almost" human. Both the level of emotional attachment and the requisite daily care make dogs important players in bringing humans in contact with one another and mediating human relationships.”

So, it HAS been scientifically proven that love with our dogs is essential! And what better way to show them your affection than to spoil them with healthy, yummy treats on the LOVE DAY OF THE YEAR - Valentine's Day.

ShinDig Dog, a brand new line of dog treats for the occasional celebration, has got your covered! ShinDig Dog has launched exclusive Valentine's Day treats just in time for that special day. The Valentine's Day Treat Trio includes 100% USDA inspected chicken & turkey jerky, all natural and nutritious beef heart chips and perfect patties that are made from American bison heart & tongue.

Now, if heart & tongue doesn't say I love you ... we don't know what does!

Visit and grab a Valentine's Day dog treat or plush goodie for your four-legged heart thumper. We're also prepared to send a little something to any of your far-away friends and will include a hand-written love gram.

Sit. Stay. Love'um up!

Holiday "No, no's" for Fido

Posted by sitstaydogs

Dec 12, 2013 10:39:34 AM

Food around the holidays is the FIRST thing on everyone's mind. A very close second on your mind should be food safety! Especially when your four-legged family members have joined the party.

Animal Planet offers a great article on foods to be wary of feeding Fido! A few we thought you needed to be especially careful when in the full swing of the holidays are:
  • Raw meat or meat with bones--choking hazard and possible contamination/bacteria (* We suggest when buying chews opt for bones not rawhide, but bones specially dried and approved for doggy consumption! Try a few HERE that we absolutely love!

  • Alcohol, although this one may seem like a no brainer, spiked holiday cheer should be spread to all, except for puppies *also those 2-legged friends that are not legal age! It is very digestion for them to consume alcohol.

  • Yeasts and doughs: be especially wary when baking! You shouldn’t be licking the spoon and Spot definitely shouldn’t be either! Keep them out of Paws way
The American Veterinary Medicine Association also offers some helpful tips to follow during the holidays!
  • Secure trees and holiday decor. Sharp and heavy objects DON’T want to be falling on your pooch..and dangerous objects are clearly the most fun looking ones to play with!

  • Be careful of open fires and candles..those tails are flammable, especially on low tables and fireplaces.
  • Keep Holiday plants away--Holly and Mistletoe are dangerous to dogs health *call the vet if ingested

Offer Alternatives to your pooch, instead of just "NO, NO, NO". Here is an awesome idea for a Holiday Cookie Exchange Party that is safe for pups, OR a great recipe for Meaty Holiday Feast Puppy Chow. If your thinkin cap is really on you could take this Meaty Holiday Feast Puppy Chow to the Cookie Exchange ;)

Here at SitStay we truly want the best, safest, & yummiest holiday season & new year for YOU and your Good Dog!! As always, we would never offer a product or information that we wouldn’t give to our own pets!

From the SitStay Family,

Happy Holidays

Poo Pourri, Poo spray for human Doo

Posted by sitstaydogs

Dec 12, 2013 10:28:32 AM

Here at SitStay we are very concerned about the oddest of things. One of them is dog doo. Is it healthy? Digestion going okay? Does everyone have lavender scented, eco-friendly poo bags? The list goes on and on.

For as obsessed as we are with our doggie doo, we absolutely could NOT look past offering this product for you and YOUR poo. Poo Pourri. It’s ingenious, looking back this could have made our most innovative product of the year (although disqualification for human use, not for dogs).

Poo Pourri is a “before you go” toilet spray. The pleasantly smelling poo spritz creates a film over the top of the water to trap and lock foul smells. The bottles are also adorable and hilarious! These make the perfect stocking stuffer for all ages! Also, great to leave in guest bathrooms for visitors to use and get a laugh out of!!

Additionally, there is a spray scent for everyone! So nobody feels left out in the bathroom: for those that are more regal (drop a deuce like a King with Royal Flush), for the wild child in the family Call to the Wild will enhance your primal urges, for the festive spirits-Santa Poo or a Poo-Ville Gift Set! And many more scents HERE!

This product has been tried and tested, and overwhelmingly LOVED by all who have tested. CEO, Sara Dreamer, mother of two teenage boys, can attest that with three boys in the house Poo Pourri DOES in fact work wonders!

keeping a slim figure for you and your pup through the holidays

We all pack on a little winter weight during the holiday season--I’d like to blame it on genetics, and when people actually had to put weight on when, well, they lived in caves. Clearly not the case anymore, we should all really stop making the excuses for the extra lbs during the holidays! Not only for ourselves, but the lifestyles we lead trickles down to other members of our family! It is especially important to be wary of the furry, four-legged family members because even small changes in weight have a larger impact on them.

Tips to keeping you and your furry-four legged best friends waistline trim:

1) Keep mealtimes at the same time:
It is difficult for the body’s metabolism when changing up meal time too frequently. Try to always have breakfast, lunch, and supper at the same time. Or pooch’s meal time(s) at the same time.

2) Limiting snacking/or changing to a healthier snack
I live by the “want a cookie, have a cookie” principle - year round. Although, I make sure my diet is full of lean proteins, colorful fruits and vegetables, and whole grains before the cookie craving sets in!! And if you are already full of healthy choices, then you may not want that cookie or piece of fruit cake anyways.

And when you or your pup ARE craving that yummy snack--go for it. The more you limit yourself or Fido, the more you’ll end up craving it. So don’t go cold turkey on treats during the holidays, when tension can run high with sales, shopping lines out the mall doors, and those in-laws--just kidding, no stress there ;)--you don’t want to start any drastic changes in lifestyle. OR start exploring healthier treat options!!

  • For the savory lover: my VICE is chips and queso, or salsa, AND sour cream. SO instead, chop up some carrot “chips”, cucumber slices and baked kale (i think they are better than tortilla chips) and serve with fresh homemade salsa, hummus and low fat plain greek yogurt!

  • For the sweet lover: Opt for baked or sauteed fruits and top with low fat vanilla yogurt and cinnamon. It gives you the satisfaction of the sweet, warm, ooey-gooey you’re craving without the crazy fat and calories of chocolate explosion cake!

  • For the pups: (who we are actually most concerned about anyways)

Pecks by The Honest Kitchen A sweet hand-made, all-natural treat that is low calorie and high nutrient! Featuring barley flour, molasses, buffalo, and blueberries

Sam’s Yams Sweet Potato Cookies "Cookies" made from sweet potato and other organic ingredients, these will satisfy any pup, and you can rest easy knowing these are GREAT for your pup!

Nutrisca Raw Freeze Dried Treats Freeze dried treats lock in all of the nutrients and flavor. These have a low glycemic index, and are FREE of gluten, corn, wheat and soy

Polka Dog Wonder Nuggets Moist bites that are all-natural and hand baked! Two different flavors offering limited great ingredients!

3) Account for travel and time differences:
This is something I am ALWAYS the worst offender for during the holidays. When in an airplane or car it can sometimes be a time warp - especially if it is a literally timezone change! This can be especially stressful for dogs, traveling in general, so we suggest Earth Heart Mists this season to alleviate some tension and stress. So, make sure to keep mealtimes as regular as possible, and don’t forget about eating, or on the other hand, gorge yourself with fast food (I know it’s the easiest thing sometimes at the airport with 10 suitcases and a lollygagging family and scared pooch!) at the airport or right once you get to the hotel.

Overall, have a very happy, healthy holiday season from the SitStay family to you and yours!

Holi-Paw Party

Dec 12, 2013 10:17:52 AM

This holiday season, make sure to share the love with your 4-legged friends! We've assembled some ideas and goodies for you so that you can host your own "Holi-Paw Party"! Yes - a dog party, a HOLIDAY dog party! (Okay, it may just be more fun for you, but how cute will it be to get all the 'fur-babies' on the block together?)

First, start off with a game of "Hide the Cookie", followed by some good ole' fashioned "Tug Of War" , and by now, the crew will be ready for a chewin' snack, so open up a Brown Beggers Chew Sampler to satisfy everyone's craving. Just incase anyone gets too excited, it would be a good idea to keep some clean-up supplies on hand.

It wouldn't be a legit party if there weren't party favors - so, everyone at your party with 4 legs should walk away with their own SitStay stocking and holiday tag!

Spiked Christmas cheer (martini recipes)

Posted by sitstaydogs

Dec 12, 2013 10:14:47 AM

We would also like to offer our two-legged friends some special drinks to share with family and friends round the fire during the chilly holiday season! There are three different varieties (feel free to mix it up with your own favorite beverages, or add your own flare).

Wet Nose
This easy-peasy quick recipe is simple but delicious. Take a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle, and enjoy this yumminess!!

  • 1 oz. amaretto

  • 1 oz. heavy cream (OR low calorie: vanilla soy/almond milk)

  • 1 oz. vodka

Directions: Mix all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain and serve in chilled glasses. Sprinkle a little nutmeg on top for garnish, flavor, and aroma. Drink up!

Twisted Bone

(for the semi-homemade types, takes a little extra time and a few more ingredients)

  • 1 ounce peppermint schnapps

  • 3 ounces of vanilla vodka

  • Crushed candy cane for garnish

Directions: Use a rolling pin or a skillet and hammer the candy cane into rough pieces and add a pinch to each glass. Pulverize some even further to use as a rimmer for your cocktail glasses. (tip: don’t use water to rim, use lemon or lime juice for margaritas for instance, in this case I would use some yummy chocolate or vanilla flavored vodka--to round out the peppermint schnapps of course). Next, add the remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously before straining the contents into the martini glass. Enjoy!

Yellow Snow

(for you all-out Martha Stewart-ers, or those that want to take a little extra time for in-laws or party-goers)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice, plus more for garnish

  • 8 cups whole milk

  • 6 large egg yolks

  • 3 cups brandy

1. Set a large fine-mesh strainer over a bowl. Place the bottom of the bowl in an ice bath and set aside. Off heat, in a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg, and pumpkin pie spice. Slowly mix in four cups of milk. Whisk in the egg yolks.

2. Whisking constantly, cook over medium heat until the first large bubble sputters, 10 to 12 minutes. Reduce heat to low; cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute more. Remove from heat; immediately pour through sieve into bowl. Stir in remaining 4 cups milk. Let cool completely in bowl still set in ice bath.

3. Just before serving, stir in brandy, and ladle into glasses; garnish with pumpkin-pie spice.

Happy Pawlidays,

Holiday Feast for Fido - Brown Beggers Chew Sampler

Posted by sitstaydogs

Dec 6, 2013 9:32:00 AM

There’s nothing like sitting down to an amazing Holiday Dinner with the family. Dad is carving the beautifully roasted turkey while the side dishes are being passed around the table. It smells like home, Christmas, & food that needs to get in your belly.

You glance down, NO, you shouldn’t have. Those puppy dog eyes so innocently staring back up at you. Your normally rambunctious dog is acting strangely angelic, you tell him to go sit down. He has his own meal to eat (and sharing scraps is a NO NO). At that moment you realize you didn’t shop for anything special for the most loyal member of your family!

Don’t let this scenario happen to you this holiday season, instead give Fido his OWN holiday feast. Brown Beggers™ Chew Sampler has gone to the dogs this season and includes limited edition chews selected specifically for Fido’s Christmas Feast!

Brown Beggers™ Chew Sampler was inspired by CEO, Sara Dreamer’s, nostalgia of picking out the perfect meat selections at the local butcher with her grandmother. Just as those hand-picked delicacies were picked years ago, the Brown Beggers™ tradition lives on with USA select, high-quality, hand-picked natural chews for your dog. Each is packaged to order and especially for dogs ranging from small to large breeds.
